This is the 33st issue of the South Bay Traditional Jazz Society's eReminder

This issue of the eReminder is coming out one week early since yours truly will be out of the country on the normal date.

 

Why not use your tax rebate check or team up with some friends to sponsor a band? It's tax deductable!

 

Sundayafter next, June 22 will be our monthly Jazz-Dance session. The featured band will be the Golden Gate Rhythm   Machine . This is a small band with a big, swinging, fun loving sound, produced by some of the best traditional jazz musicians in the country. See yoy there.

 

Parades: Saturday, June 21 st @ Pleasanton and Friday, July 4 th @Redwood City

MARK YOUR CALANDAR!! JULY 20 (THIRD SUNDAY) from 5:00 to 9:00 ( Different Time).

 

The UPTOWN LOWDOWN JAZZ BAND will play for us for the July session at the Sunnyvale Elks . Getting this band is a real accomplishment. Jim Harget has beed trying for a year to get this band here. The deal involves them playing at Rossmore, Cline Cellars, Frends of Jazz in Danville and for us all in one trip from Seattle .

 

A Call to Arms !!

Our society is growing!! Attendance is up, the jammers and house band are going great guns and our finances have not been this good in years. To keep growing

WE NEED PEOPLE. If you love this music it is time to get involved with the society. Contact any board member to get started helping.

 

  IMPORTANT MEMBERSHIP NOTICE —Membership expires January 1 each year. Join after June 1 for half price for current year. Please join / renew your membership today downloading the form and mailing it to Mary Weir at the address indicated. For those of you who have already renewed, thank you!

The SBTJS has voted to reduce the admission fees to $8 for members of SBTJS and other jazz clubs and $10 for all others. Elks members get in free, donations encouraged.

Robbie Schlosser and the Magnolia Jazz Trio are playing at the ROUX Lousiana Kitchen at 3055 Olin Av in Santana row next to Maggiano's Thur to Sat from 6:00 to 9:00.

 

Maddaline Edstrom plays at Aurthur's Resturant , 2875 Lakeside Drive, Santa Clara every Monday from 6:00 to 10:00. This is an open Mike session, Musicans welcome.

The Silicon Gulch Jazz Band plays every Tuesday at the Swinging Door (was the Prince of Wales ) Pub , 7:00 to 10:00pm. The Pub is located at 106 East 25 th Ave , San Mateo , (650) 574-9723. Clint Baker and the Café Borrone All Stars play most Friday nights, 8:00 to 11:00pm, at Café Borrone , 1010 El Camino Real in Menlo Park , (650) 327-0830. Paul Price's Society Orchestra plays for the Varsity Dance Club at the Ball Room at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, 600 Colorado Ave , Palo Alto , CA June 15 from 4:00 to 6:30. The Chris Bradley Jazz Band plays at the Pleasanton Hotel , Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 7:30 to 9:30pm. Check with the Hotel at (925) 846-8106 or go to Pleasanton hotel Calendar. Chris and his band play on the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays.

The date of the monthly SBTJS Board meeting is normally the first Tuesday after the Sunday session. Check our web site for the latest. All members are encouraged and welcome to attend. A great way to help the Society is to sit in on a Board meeting.  No doubt something of interest will arise where you will want to jump in and add some value.

 

The SBTJS continues to face challenges. If you want to help, grab a Board member and tell them you want to get involved . Volunteers are always welcome; you don't need to sign up. Just jump in and help where you see a gap. Can you take photos or help with the sound or raffle? There are still some open spots on the Board.

Antique Autos in History Park


Band Photo The South Bay Stompers will be performing for the Antique Autos in History Park event on Sunday, September 9, 2007. Come out and experience times past with scores of vintage cars, motorcycles, bicycles, fire equipment and turn-of-the-century engines, while live Dixieland music wafts thru the air. Catch a ride on a historic trolley, savor an ice cream cone, check out the 1/2-size replica of the famous San Jose Electric Light Tower and visit interesting buildings and remembrances from San Jose's past.

The event runs from Noon to 5:00 PM on Sept. 9, 2007 (the band plays from 1:00 to 3:00 PM). History Park is located in Kelley Park at the corner of Senter Road and Phelan Ave. in San Jose. The event is free and open to the public! (charge for parking). Here are some of the buildings and exhibits you can visit: Coyote Post Office, Stevens Ranch Fruit Barn, Portuguese Historical Museum at the Imperio, Print Shop, California Trolley & Railroad Corporation Trolley Barn and the It's Our Fault Too! exhibit at the Pasetta House.
